CHURCH OF SAINT DIMITRIS
In the fourth century, Dimitris was the son of the military commander of Thessaloniki. When his father died, he was appointed by Emperor Maximian to take his place and charged with persecuting Christians in the city. Instead, Dimitris openly confessed and preached Christianity. The enraged Emperor cast him into prison and then sent soldiers to kill him.
However, if this church perched below the main road through Stasimo, is anything to go by, Dimitris is not forgotten. The church and the walkway below it are lovingly cared for in his memory.
