VILLAGES TAXIARCHES If you continue north on the road from Lepreo beyond its archaeological site, you will arrive in Taxiarches. This deserves a visit if you are interested in traditional Greek architecture. European money has been used to preserve the stone shells of old buildings and provide access, viewing platforms and lighting. These museum pieces sit side by side with restored holiday homes and inhabited dwellings with all their paraphernalia and livestock. The effect is a place resembling a stage set for a TV series featuring a mysterious village where the hero is held captive.
